Tint band on windshield?

Has anyone ever tinted the top section of their windshield ("legal"?)
Was thinking it might look pretty cool, and help with the sun at that angle when i head into it.

Maybe something wide enuf to be inline with the back part that drops down from the rear view mirror(only to give it a clean look from outside)

Also wondering if tinting can be done , and look ok, over those black dot/spots around the mirror too.

And what the heck are those things anyway? Do they serve a legit purpose?

Yes. I had a professional do it, along with the front side windows. I haven't gone through inspection yet, not do until 2009, assuming it will pass.

The black dots are there to cut glare and not completely eliminate sunlight coming in behind the inside mirror.

Exactly, to cover the part of the windshield that can not be blocked by the drop down visors.

As far as tinting over the spots go, I have a ceramic tint on the entire windshield that blocks UV rays and 5% of the light. Had it on for over 2 years and you wouldn't know it was there unless told, so no problems covering those "spots".

Had it on my escort in Hawaii.

You need to look at your state laws...just do a search on yahoo. In Hawaii you can have a 4" strip and it helps.

Thanks for all the info folks! (and the pic!)
I'm gonna get the front side windows tinted soon, and was thinking on having the windshield's top band done too.

Dunno the laws here in Indiana, but i'm sure the installers around here are up on that.

Was thinking on having them tint the already factory tint on the remaining glass, just to go darker (and prob match the driver/passenger front windows at the same time.

I've had tinted windows on my last few vehicles, and since i had the SS, sans front door tint, it's felt like i was getting burnt up when the sun was coming thru LOL.
