Wheel Bolt Patterns

Wheel Bolt Patterns
I know the Bolt Pattern on the HHR is 5x110.
However I am curious if there is any bit of leeway on these specifications and how far off that 5x110 could one go, and still have a safe fit?
Or is it strictly 5x110.
For example; would a wheel that is listed as having a "5x4.72 or 5x120" bolt pattern fit with a little work?

Short answer, no.
It isn't possible to make that work with just "a little work"
If the wheel has covered lugs you may be able to have it drilled 5x110 in-between the existing bolt patter. Wheels can also be "filled and drilled" or use inserts to change the bolt circle. But those options are best left up to professionals.
