Windshield dings!
Windshield dings!
I have received my second windshield ding
and I do not think the object was going at a high velocity. However it put a really deep ding on the windshield.
I tried to do a search for any known threads, and came up empty.
So, has anyone else noticed how soft the glass is, and experienced any majors glass dings???
Fortunately, the glass did not crack or "web"....

I just got one on Monday. I'll post a pic or two when I get home. I wasn't as lucky as you though. I got the smallest little chip right next to the drivers side A-pilar probably about 1/32" deep and 1/8" in diameter but it left about a 6" crack in the window. I have had chips in my glass on other vehicles before but never a crack. I couldn't believe such a small chip would leave such a big crack. I'm going into my dealership next week for an oil change and a few other small issues so I'm see if I can complain enough about defective glass to get them to replace it free of charge. I know it sounds like an a**hole move rather than just replacing it myself but the chip is so tiny I feel that it shouldn't have cracked as bad as it did.

I never posted pics but I am getting my windshield replaced today. I was kind of forced to get it done by the cop that gave me a ticket last night. I would rather get it fixed than pay a fine. Anyways, our windshield glass is expensive. The lowest price I could find locally is $528.72 plus tax and the highest estimate I got was $675 including tax. I don't mind spending money on my HHR but I wish it could have been on things other than my windshield.
The thing that really sucks is it's coming out of my pocket.
I don't have glass coverage on my insurance. They could cover it under my comprehensive but I have a $1000 deductible so that rules that out. Oh well, that's just my luck. Seeing as it's coming out of my pocket anyways I told them to tint a 6" glare strip in while they are at it. That way I at least feel a little better about spending the money. :)

Door dings, some a-hole keying me, windshield cracks = $50 and taking my deductable from $500 to $50 was not much of an increase. And yes, I have used it maybe once every other year and never had my premium go up because of it.

I guess I set my policy up wrong.
On my old car I had unlimited Glass protection. I'm going to double check with my car ins company to make sure that I have it on my new car. They said everything was still the same when I brought in the new car paperwork. Lets hope I did not miss any small print. Captain did the cop really give you a ticket for the windshield? Or was it for something else? Were you speeding or playing loud music? I'm curious to see the pictures.
I never took pictures. I have to take the car in at 3:00 so I wont have time to take any, sorry. The officer originaly pulled me over because she didn't like how I switched lanes. Which is complete crap anyways because I had my signal on and didn't do anything dangerous. I was getting on the expessway by my house and I was following an Explorer up the onramp. They wanted to do 40 MPH merging into a 65 MPH zone. I saw an opportunity to go around them and avoid the accedent that they were probably going to cause. Well I didn't notice that there was a cop two cars back in the lane I merged into. So seeing as how she didn't like my lane change and thought it was unsafe she pulled me over. She then noticed the crack in my window so knowing if I fought the lane change ticket I would probbably have it dismissed she wrote me up for the cracked windshield. But I would rather give the window place $600 dollars to have something I need fixed anyways replaced as opposed to pay the damn fine. That way I still have my pride and sense of defiance in tact. And like I said I'm having them add a glare strip while their at it.

I knew the important numbers that the bank needed covered but that's about it. I didn't fully think it through, I just jumped on the policy when I saw how much I was saving.

I get max coverage for a new car and then decrease coverage every two years until the value of the car is so low that a fender bender would total it!
