06 Chevy HHR alternator/power ?'s Can my car handle the system? PLEASE HELP!!!!
I am needing alot of help!!!
-----------------------------------------------------------
I am placing a system in my car -
alpine pdx 1.1000 - 80 amps - 1000 watts rms class D block
alpine pdx 2.150 - 30 amps - 300 watts rms
placing LED lights through out car, have a dvd navigation system by poloroid which will be professionally installed. I have Panasonic CQ-C8803U deck,
subs are 2 apline e12 subs in custom open face box, 2 bazooka purple nos-8 tube subs.
focal component in front doors and focal 2 ways in back both 6.5 inches.
2 one foot neon 1 foot sticks in back. ---------------------------
----------------------------------------------------------------
I want to make sure that i make the right steps to supply everything and not have to worry about stuff breaking.
I cant find someone that makes and HHR customer alternator/ HO alternator,
would several capacitors and a yellow top battery do the job, with some distrubution blocks. i am not sure how much the 06 hhr's put out (alternator) but i know the 07's put out 125 amps.
MAN this job has been making me have nightmares (seriously of starting up the car and then when the bass hits the car dies. AHHH!!!
I am an amatuer and wont be installing my own stuff, and i dont wanna run in to a car toys like place and possibly get con-ed in to buying or doing more stuff than necessary. please help.

It really depends on how long and how loud you intend to play your system. For short periods of time playing it loud will not be an issue (you will need two1.5F or larger caps). If you play it loud during times when there are peak demands on the charging system for extended periods of time (lights on, defroster on, rear defroster on, etc.) the alternator will not keep up with the demand. The computer in your car is not guarenteed to work if your battery voltage drops below 9V.
*bump*
I plan on having a lot of electronics in my car as well... Might as well try to learn now. What can you do besides getting a second battery, because that doesn't always work, it just means that now the alternator has 2 batteries to charge.

Well i am not really sure what else i can do, i think i will be forced to get a yellow top battery.
Since i cannot find any h/o alternators for hhr's, i dont know what else there is.
Prolly get a 4.0 fared capacitor, a distribution block and... blah, i am just dreading the car not being able to handle the load, either that or having to change out my battery once ever month or so.
The yellow top and cap should do ya just fine. For a lil extra protection, when you get to your destination, turn everything off, then when you are getting ready to go somewhere else, use your remote start ahead of time and let it run for a while before you go anywhere, to help give a lil extra charge.

Hopefully i can sleep better now.
Don't know for sure but, you may be able to use a SLIGHTLY under sized alternator pully.
Or you may be able to have a auto electric place rebuild it to a larger output.

so when you say a larger output (sry i am a noob surrounded by experts) do you mean like changing the out put cord from a 4 guage to a 0 gauge or something?
No, not by changing the output cord. The rebuilders do something to the inside....more windings, diodes, or what ever. I had this done about 10 years ago. An alternator went out on a camping/tow vehicle. And I decided to have the original rebuilt in place of doing an over the counter exchange. The guy said for $3.00 more (at that time) he would buiild it for extra output (I think it was in the 160 amp range) And, all I can say is .....it would keep 2 batteries charged to capacity...to the day I sold the vehicle.
