2009 HHR - Harness Adapters 'n' stuff

Hey guys, just posted this with my intro, but I'll paste it here, too:

Basically I have a few questions about installing aftermarket stereo stuff in an 09 with OnStar. I see all kinds of kits and adapters that go up to 08 models, no mention of 09 anywhere. I see the METRA GMOS-LAN-03 harness adapter lets you keep your OnStar and chimes functionality, but it doesn't say it supports 09 models anywhere that I can find! Can't find a different model that does. Has anything changed in that area between 08 and 09? Also with the dash adapter (to regular single DIN)?
One more major question: how does doing your own stereo install (quite professionally, mind you, doing my own for 10 years now) affect your warranty? Kind of important because I feel like I paid $10,000 for the warranty itself.

shouldnt affect your warranty. a dumb dealer might try to say well the tranny wouldnt have gone out if you didnt switch out the stereo. itll pretty much i think would only void your warranty on stereo components. nd if you have an issue just switch out the ehad unit, its simple enough to do in about 10 minutes.

Cool, thanks for the reply, that's what I like to hear. It's funny how some people automatically assume the worst when it comes to warranty stuff and self modifications. Someone was telling me, "If you put in your own stereo, that voids your entire warranty". I thought that was a little rediculous, but this being my first brand new vehicle, I wanted to be sure. Even the sales guy said it shouldn't be a problem unless I end up with an electrical problem that they can trace back to faulty install work, but hey, he was selling a car.
Still need to know if it's the same harness, though. Anyone put an after market deck in an 09 with OnStar yet? I'd imagine nothing has changed, but with the harness costing over $100, having that verified first would be best. If that's the right one, is it available inside Canada? Always love getting nailed with customs charges when buying from the US. Or better yet, already local in Calgary? Any info is always appreciated...

Thumbs down Double post! Ahhhh!

Sorry for the double post, but I gotta keep this thread alive. Just found a harness adapter in-stock for my 2009 with OnStar - non-amplified. They want $220.00 Canadian! In total, it's going to cost me about $350.00 just to put in a system I already own - - - and that's doing it myself! I can't believe it! $220 for the harness, $90 for the amp wiring kit, and $30 for the DIN adapter... plus tax! Crap!

is there any local audio stores. or even a best buy or the like. it may be cheaper to pick up the stuff there than having it shipped

Haha. That is at a local store, no shipping! Been checking all of them and nobody has it except the one so far, Visions Electronics here in Calgary, $220.00.

I went to Crutchfield and put in your cars info and they said you need the Metra GMOS-LAN-03 for your Onstar.

Hmm. That's funny because when I put in my info on Crutchfield, it doesn't list the GMOS-LAN-03. When I look at the GMOS-LAN-03, it says only 2006-2007 HHR. Went to www.metraonline.com and it comes up with that same part successfully for my car, but the description still only says 06-07 HHR. Someone confirms an 08 works with it, so I think that's gonna work. Will let you know for sure after I get it. I've had local quotes of $220 for it. Crutchfield Canada has it for $140 with free shipping! Sounds like a done deal to me. Thanks for all the input, guys. Much appreciated.
