2009 stereo in 2008hhr

Has anybody figured out if this is just a simple change out the head units or does more have to be done

Regardless of the HU differences, all GM radios are VIN specific. People who have switched out for another OEM unit have had to go to the dealer to have the computer flashed to recognize the new HU.

i was wondering this too. in a few months to a year, i wouldn't mind finding one junked and remove the radio to add the usb port. I don't really care enough to buy one new to add it, but if i could find it at the right price, i would.

Does the 2008 model stereo also provide CD player/mp3 playback? How about the Aux input port as well as the USB port? This option code is UUI for the 2009, don't know what would be close in the 2008. This stereo seems to be great as you can put 12+ hours of music in mp3 format (128 bit rate) on a standard 700MB/80 Min CD. MP3 formatted CD's will not play in a standard CD player. In fact the player won't even recognize any music on the CD.
The only other thing I've read about somewhere in this forum is that you will need the dealership to flash the cars computer to recognize the new stereo unit.

All units except the base model will play mp3s. My wife has an 06 and it will play them. I think 09 is the 1st to offer the usb port. I think all units have the aux jack.

Bluetooth

It also is Bluetooth enabled along with the USB port. I believe the USB takes the place of the aux. input (deduced from the pictures I've seen).

From other posts I have read:
All 2009 stereos are mp3 capable
The bluetooth is not part of the head unit, it is more a part of the onstar system

Im guessing a swap with the USB head unit would require flashing the BCM with a 2009 version, dont know if thats possible.
I certainly hope the USB head unit also has the AUX jack.
