Anyone have experience with adding the non-Onstar factory XM module to a base radio?

I had to look a lot deeper to find the GMLAN Low speed connection. It seems that the BCM does not need any programming; this is what the Shop Manuals has to say nothing involving the computer, I don't know.

I wanted to go back and grab the donor bcm, just to have if the xm module won't talk to my current one. Thought was I could swap eprom from one to another if the U2K isn't ghost enabled on my current bcm, as I already the donor pulled out of it's mount to get the wiring out, but it was just too cold to walk back 30 rows and the sun was setting. Will go back Thursday and grab it.

I'm really hoping the current bcm is ghost setup for the xm module lan connection as-is. But yeah.. I don't know either..

Found it, looks like some 2006 models had the small square xm only antenna as shown on the white hhr in post #6, it even has the same wheels as the xm donor car. Interesting note, a few posts above two blue hhrs are showing the rear ends, one without a rear antenna, and one with a sharkfin, this thread is from March 2007.

Had a chance to try connecting the XM module to the radio via BCM, and the radio instantly recognized the xm tuner. Pic sucks as the phone refresh rate isn't agreeing with the radio vfd, but the message displayed is - xm theftlocked-. This means all hhr models with the the dot matrix display/no number button preset radios will work with xm, and the bcm will automatically recognize it.

My hhr without the comms package is not wired for the audio from connector 200 to the radio as suspected,
much like cobalt owners have reported. Now I feel ok about modifying the wiring and disabling the eprom on the xm unit.

XM installed and working. Also re-dyed the leather steering wheel from the XM donor car for steering wheel controls, I used duplicolor charcoal gray, it's too blue and light compared to the putty colored upper dash, but a lot better vs the fading original dye.

Thanks OldBlue! The steering wheel audio controls were worth every bit of effort to get that wheel cleaned up and dyed. Here is before and after of the worst area for dye wear on the wheel.
