Bad fade and balance
Hey I guys, I just bought a 2011 LT. It has the factory radio. The right side of the balance is gone (extremely faint. Barely can hear the music) and the front and rear fade is screwed up...Front only works. I decided to put in an aftermarket single din outfit so I bought a stereo, mounting kit with new harnesses, antenna extension and the interface module for the alarms etc. But before I do all of this, I was wondering if there is anything I can check ( I'm new to HHR's ) or is the head unit shot and needing replaced?
Thanks in advance. John |
Speakers are typically the problem

It would probably be a good idea to replace them also I guess.

X2 what greybeard999 said. Its more likely that a number of speakers are needing replacement. They are often a source of failure.

Thanks brother. I appreciate the advice. This is the first HHR I've ever owned and had no idea.

Welcome to the site, x2 in the speakers, I suggest you change them first , you might not need to replace the HU |
Thank you. It's great to be here :) I'll try new speakers first. I was accustomed to the old stereos (I'm 56)...In the old days when the fade and balance were bad the borads in the radios were bad. I know NOTHING about the newer circuit/compute stuff....lol. Thank you again :)

The boards and circuitry are similar, the speakers get wet , living in those cold doors! Condensation and vibration kill the speaker cones and corrode the speaker magnets and baskets |
