I went to upgrade the speaker wires to the doors and I hit a roadblock.

apparently there is a harness under the rubber grommet...not just a wire loom.

Also, inside the footwell, the rubber mat seems to go up into the dash and can't be peeled back to access the harness from the inside.

what can I do?

 

If my memory serves there are individual wires through the grommet. I don't recall any rubber mat under the kick panel.

The left side grommet cost 4 times as much as the right!
