Cutting radio pocket for clearance.

So has everyone who has installed an aftermarket head unit had to cut the back out of the radio compartment so the aftermarket can fit at the proper depth? I have the stock unit out and basically have a choice of cutting the back of the pocket or have the head unit stick out from the dash. Any advice?

I cut mine with a Bluepoint mini airsaw. Now my center vents are loose until the radio trim bezel is snapped into place. I had to cut a LOT out of mine to make way for the iPod cable, steering wheel controls, optical cable, HD cable, AiNet cable, etc...LOL, but ir fits.

Word on the dremel.

I removed the stock fog light dummy plug and mounted my Passport 8500x50 remote plug there. It was fun cutting that to fit.

After suggesting so in another thread, I am now convinced that we were separated at birth.

The only tool better than a Dremel (and marginally so) is...

I didn't have to cut mine to fit an AVIC-F700BT, albeit I cut my hands in plenty of spots getting the harness and stuff behind the plastic, and it would've been easier if i dremeled it out.

I just used an exacto/razor knife. The plastic is kinda soft the knife cut right through it.

Probably gonna have to cut more out when I install the complete system.

I used a hack saw blade to cut the plastic out. But it would have been easier and neater if I had used my trusty Dremel.
