Cutting the back of the radio area to increase depth
Cutting the back of the radio area to increase depth
Just wondering if any of you that have installed aftermarket head units have cut out part of the back of the radio opening to fit your hu flush. I am about to do this as the Pioneer DEH-80prs hu is the same depth as the factory radio opening. With the center air ducts attached to it it leaves just enough room to cut out for the rca's to fit so the hu can sit flush. I won't be doing this until Mon or Tues but I will take pics for anyone else that might find the need to do this.
If any one has pics of this already please feel free to post them.

Don't have my air saw anymore so I will have to use my dremel. I dont think I will need to cut all that much out so I should be ok. But this things battery doesn't last long thru the semi thick plastic use in these cars. Well atleast it did not for my a-pillars. I had to switch to my angle grinder for that but it will not fit very well into that radio opening lol.

You can get one from Harbor Freight currently on sale for $19.99. 5 pack of blades fine or coarse are $7.99.
I have all the other type tools you mention and the air saw seemed to be the best easiest choice as it's straight and had good reach to cut it out like a red hot knife through warm butter.
Give your other tools a try but keep the air saw in mind, at 20 bucks it's cheap enough and you'll use it on other projects.
They even sell an electric body saw for $32.99 (not currently on sale) for those that are compressor challanged.
Mine was a Ingersol Rand as were all my air tools but that was then lol and this is now where I am airless. If it weren't for the battery draining quickly, the dremel would cut thru it in a matter of minutes but literally it drains in a few less minutes then needed most of the time. And it is an actual Dremel brand dremel
. I might run over to HF and get there little plug in dremel that they have on sale right now and use that to be honest. IIRC it is on sale for $7.99 and I have a tube of blades.

Thats the same dremel I have which is why I want to get a little electric one as they are short enough to fit in there as well as being able to last long enough to complete the job in the first go at it :).
I couldn't get a good angle with the dremel. My hand saw did most of the work.
