My rear amplifier/speaker appears to be not working (no bass sound emitting). I checked the fuse on the right side of the front console (#6 slot 20A) and it is okay. Does anyone know how to diagnose the rear amp? How is the side panel removed? I tried searching without any luck for posts. Thanks for the information.

 

If you are speaking of the subwoofer not working? No there is nothing wrong with it. They just are severely underpowered. I don't know that I have ever heard it do anything. If you put groceries back there it will rattle the plastic bag if it is blocking the sub. That is about it. The other 4 speakers put out more bass than the subwoofer.

 

That is not true for my 2010 with the Pioneer upgraded system. The rear window vibrates to the bass when I crank it up. Not like an aftermarket, but not bad at all.

Certainly not like an aftermarket sub you can feel the bass albeit by turning up the vol, and hip hop the sub is more noticable.

 

Mine shakes the mirrors and I can feel it in the gas pedal.........

 

I have turned off the treble and midrange and maxed the bass. Then cranked the volume and there is bass but just like a standard radio, nothing that I would call amplified. Nothing vibrates.

 

check your fade position...if you have it full front you wont get crap

 

I forgot to add to my post.....fade "full rear". No major bass

 

For basic diagnostics I would try a different speaker..... that doesn't mean buying a replacement..... any moderately decent speaker of about 8 Ohm would work for this. If you don't have any laying around a Goodwill or other thrift store usually has something that will work for a couple of buck$..... even a home stereo speaker will work for testing. Try to find something 8"-10" but other than Ohms, the specs aren't important for this. Make sure it's not a powered speaker like a computer speaker or powered sub....... you just want a speaker.

If you are getting nothing at all from that rear sub, you will have to get that rear panel off......... the amp and speaker are in the same area. With the volume turned down (and off for the moment) disconnect the factory speaker and temporarily wire in the test speaker. Turn it on and see if there's sound....... If not it's the amp or the head unit, if there is sound it's the speaker.

 

Thanks greybeard for the information. It is too cold to mess with it now but when the temperatures get warmer I will give it a try. I have some auto speakers in the garage that I can use. How difficult is it to remove the rear panel? Thanks again!
