Do you need to program the radio if you can use the xm upgrade kit?

If the car has code UE1 and without U1C, and I have the radio with the CAT button, I know that I can buy the kit #17800594 for the XM Module. But, will I still need to take the car to the dealer to get the radio programmed for XM? Does anybody know? I'm having a hard time finding the answer elsewhere in the forums.

Thanks!

I'd like to know the answer also. Can I put the XM kit on my 09. GM does not list it for the 09 for some reason. I have the CAT button on the radio.

Is that kit something you can install yourself? I guess I thought the dealer had to do it...

Should not have to program, but sometimes XM is not turned on in the BCM...but that is rare.

Thanks ChevyMgr sounds good. I almost bought it but I wanted to make sure. It's almost expensive enough to just get an aftermarket radio but I'd rather just keep it stock.
