Does my 08 radio have the internal parts required for XM?

Hello. For me to have XM radio, do I need install a receiver into the radio or is there one in there that just needs to be activated?

It is a 2008. It has a CD player, auxiliary Ipod/MP3 plug, and it does not have steering wheel controls.

Thanx.

Before you even think of XM look for the XM antenna on the rear of the roof. No antenna back there means no XM.

If the radio is XM capable, it will have a 'CAT' button.

OK, it sounds like you're in business, the next time you're in your HHR check to see if the radio brings up the XM band and then turn the manual tuning knob until you see a radio ID displayed. Once you get that number you can call XM and get your subscription set up, make sure you ask about any specials because XM seems to have about 27 different rates for the same plan. Good luck, and keep us posted.

Dude, totally cool. Thank you! We have XM in my wife's car and I love it. I live in a place where radio stations have trouble coming in.

You need U2K option for XM. Check the sticker in the glove box.

Thanx guys. I have the CAT button, and when I press it, I get a readout: "XM Feature." But when I move the manual tuning dial, it immediately goes to FM tuning. There is not a U2K on the option sheet. I know that when the original owner purchase the car, she wanted Onstar, or the 2008 version of Onstar. She was an elderly woman who wanted to get rid on her old car because it no longer had the Onstar feature. I don't know if that means anything in this situation or not, but it could be some other satellite system in there but not the XM radio.

It does not have the U2k option code on the sticker. No luck for me?
