the prefab box could be a good bet for you.
Sure a custom one could get louder, or hit lower, but not both at the same time.
So it should be a good all around box.

and the L7s are more suited for ported boxes. Their EBP is over 60 or 70 if I remember correctly.

The shop should let you tryi it in your car before you but it, just to be sure you like the sound. Just ask for a taste of bass.

yeah if you go with either the sealed or ported prefab kicker boxes that they come in you will be fine.....just all depends on your preferance. Especially if all your after is to save room. Ported or Sealed from Kicker would be fine. Now if you go and get a custom ported box made from a "professional" then you will defeat your purpose because it will literally be the size of a fish tank more than likely....and that ZX1000 is way more than enough for 12" L7....I have the ZX750 pushing mine and I can only turn it up about 1/3 of the way...

Ok so I scooped the L7 today. Very Impressed so far... initially. I had to turn my zx up 2 about 1/2 way 2 get the bang out of it though... still need to fine to as well.

One last question... the polyfil. I always thought that was intended for sealed boxes with the whole heating air thing. I've read you can take the poly fil out of ported and and will be louder. A) Is this true? and B) Is this a bad move?

polyfil is going to absorb, will it take away some of the "loudness"... most likley... take it out... if you like it then great(probably will)... if not put it back

Polyfill essentially slows down sound waves giving the illusion of more airspace.
So it is only useful to make a box seem larger when you dont have alot of space.

It doesnt heat up anything.
being louder or quieter depends on how large of a box the sub actually needs.

Doesn't heat up anything? Wow it's amazing what you can find posted on some other forums. Call me crazy but I'd think you know what you are talking about when it comes to sound...

So what would you recomend with the box I got with the L7 as far as polyfil... stay or go?

Exactly what Ed said about the polyfill.....just a cool trick to make smaller boxes seem bigger. I have always liked using it so I would say use it. Congrats on picking up the L7

you can always try the box without the polyfill to see how it compares.

But if it came with it, it probably is better with it in.

Yeah Kicker makes their ported boxes comparitively small and use polyfil to make up the difference. And the huge ports help too. Im betting if you get the factory L7 box, you wont notice the difference from the dual 12s. Just make sure you try different locations for it. Placement is important.
