When you pull your head (unit), out you will see...the radio has a Cat 5 LAN connection going into it that connects to other systems in the HHR. Pulling out the radio will cause certain things to not work if it is not bypassed correctly.

Already pulled mine out...2 harness connection to the radio and the antenna...I have the base system, however (1LT- MP3, aux)

If it's like the other newer GM's, it needs a interface to retain chime system and acc. power (MET GMRC01). From what I understand with the HHR and other new Chevy's, you lose the information center when doing an aftermarket radio...but Metra makes an interface for the information center that goes on the lower DIN opening on the dash kit- haven't seen one in use yet, however.

I have the same system, but have been waiting. If that's all the plugs I'll do it tomorrow. I don't want the chime interface anyway! (hate that thing!). I always wire my systems direct, so I can run them without the key in/on also - so ACC position switching is something I need. I guess I'll get brave tomorrow and yank her out! Thanks!

:)

If the chime system is of no concern, you can catch an acc at the BCM (located w/ fuse panel).

I ripped my radio out to see if I can use the Metra GM Ipod interface, but it isn't compatable with our cars .

JL Audio has a clean sweep that I was thinking about using. The only reason I'd use it though is if I don't like the way the scoche looks. The clean sweep lets you keep your stock radio, but still give you the outputs you need as well as being able to set it all up.

The Cleansweep is an awesome unit.

If you're seriously looking into one, I'd wait a bit- Rockford came out with the 360 processing unit, and Harman Kardon is releasing one under JBL that looks to be nice.

I didn't know other companies were making them. And I hate paying the JL price, I just love their sound. I've been thinking about putting 2 w7 8's in my hhr.

ok so can we get a clear answer here...

does the HHR require a special harness? if so who is the manufacturer of said harness?

if I dont use the special harness and I go for the standard GM harness will I lose the DIC or tghe Chimes?

anyone?

You just confused me. What are you trying to do, replace the head unit?
