I am going to get a pair of Carquest NGT Extreme Batteries and see how that works. I have heard good things about them.

Then IF a high output Alt is still needed i'll add one, but gonna do the Dual Battery setup first.

There is a guy on the Cobalt forum that has added a second Alt to his Balt. He had to do some custom fabricating and his Cobalt is Supercharged. Pretty slick how he did it actually. I may look into it further as I do have a spare HHR Alternator out in the garage.

Hmm.. tis an idea I suppose. I'm lookin at a good 500-600 watts of sound system and am wondering which would be best.. bigger alt or just a cap.. I really think the alternator would be better because no matter what, its gotta keep chargin.

I got mine for a good price, but I dont think I can disclose how much I paid for it. It's a extremely solid unit though.

Interesting read. Granted a bigger alt would be preferred if you're running north of 3000 watts I'd assume (you guys that compete can educate me on this). In my experience, I'm currently running 1500 watts in my setup and am using a 40 farad cap (not a typo! 40 farads). I keep tabs using my Aeroforce gauge on the volts and to date haven't had any problem. It's been installed for almost 10 months now and I don't baby the system either. Never had a problem with dimming lights or with battery drain, just food for thought.

I have 2 XS D3100's and a 270A alt. I get almost no voltage drop running a Crescendo 3kwp @ 1ohm. Thats all going to change with my rebuild though.
