I traced the whining noise and its coming from the amp running my front speakers. I guess I'm headed to radio shack tomorrow to pick up a ground loop isolator.

Ditto. Engine whine must create high freq's since my mono amp was not putting out engine whine. Only my 4 channel was creating the noise. More so to my right rear speaker. But all my door speakers were creating noise. I was getting ready to do the isolator but got rid of the noise by re-routing wires and cleaning up the paint where the negative cable meets the frame.

Yes. First thing is a good ground. All the ground loop isolaters in the world won't help unless you have a good ground. Even better ground all of your components (head unit, amps, eq's, etc) to the same place. DO NOT GROUND THEM TO THE NEG. BATTERY POST! That will get you even more whine. Also try to make the ground wire from the amp as short as possible. At the worst you can run a ground wire to each of the chassis of your components. Best grounds are made with a hole drilled into the chassis, grind, sand or scrape it to bare metal and use a star tooth washer on both sides (under the screw head & under your ground wires), then seal the bottom if it goes to the outside of the car to prevent rust. Hope this helps.

I have the isolator on this morning and it still makes noise. I already sanded down the negative post. Next step is to buy better rca cables and re-route them to the passenger side.

Thanx...That's some good info I wish I would've had while I was doing my install.

Thumbs up

Very nice ride!!

Does any one have any pics. that show when they took out the factory sub? And by chance doees any one have a wiring diagram for the factory amp inputs, not the out puts. Oh and if any one is interested I have an inovative box design for 1 12" Alpine type R that takes up basicly no cargo space, and gives your HHR a unique look. I have started building the box but I am waiting on my new sub to actualy put everything together.
