Kick panel sub

I have begun my 8" kick panel sub. I will post pic's tomorrow. Right now I molded the back piece into the shape of the floor and I will soon be layering glass and mat to make it thick. The air space will be rather small but my premier sub will work in a extremely small air space. I will probably have to stuff the enclosure with polyfil to help with size of the enclosure. Other than that it will be nice to have the bass up front.

Ok here it is, I have about 20 hrs into this already. I have the back molded and I took the time to smooth it out with filler even tho you don't see it. I just got done placing the speaker ring and fleecing the front. I also re-worked the back where I notched out to make room for the floor mat to be taken in and out. My next step is to glass the front.

I figured out my air space and I'm at .30cu ft. which is better than I thought. My required space is anywhere from 0.15cu ft. to 0.5cu ft.

I am anxous to see how it turns out. Theoretically, bass is non-directional which is why it can be placed in the trunk. But it might add a nice new dimension to the sound having it closer to your ear. But the main speakers you need at ear level are the tweeters, and the position in the pillars on our HHR's is optimal.

I do believe the reason for front postioning is for the brief delay it takes for the sound to travel forward. I think alpine made a processor for this at one time. I honestly don't think we can hear that well to tell, but I bet the dynamic's of the sub will be better closer to the front speakers.
