Computers now-a-days don't freeze up, it is Windows that freezes up the computer.

I never realized just how stable (and fast) today's PC's are until I started running Linux.
I work with both OS, but the average computer does not have the skills, aptitude or patience to run Linux. Younger people and kids are introduced into linux and computing in general at a much early age. Yet the 30+ and older crowd, unless they have been in the industry or made it a hobby really find linux complicated and hard to understand with all the root directories and command driven entries. Just IMO.

The XM software is included with the newer versions of RR IIRC.

Sirius is an option- however, it's also about $100 more for the hardware.

I do believe you can record and save them, I haven't really messed around with it all that much yet. I'll see if I can figure it out.

I gotta have Sirius for the NFL package. I'll pay the xtra $$. What OS are you using with RR? Let me know what you find out about saving music on your HDD. I'm seriously looking into doing this as a project for next year.

Really great setup and much appreciated for the pics and info, you have an alarm setup on your HHR? Just curious what with I had a break-in attempt on mine already and the damned thing is stock, not sure how much luck I'd have with a 7" LCD staring out of the dash.

I'm running Windows XP Pro.

As for the alarm, it's the stock panic alarm. Gonna upgrade when I figure out how in the hell to do a rem start in this car (doing a Viper 791 most likely)

Here are some pics of the dash progress:

This is a shot of the back of the dashkit, with the monitor housing in place.

I took a Metra 99-3302 dash kit- which is a single din kit for the HHR and various other GM models, and chopped the kit up with my dremel until the screen bezel fit behind it.

Then, filled the gaps with some filler and did some sanding. Threw on some primer to see how well the paint would hold. Still have some filling, sanding, and painting to do. Hopefully I'll be done in a few days :)
