To mod or not to mod

Disclaimer: new member - first post
Bought my 2011 3 yrs. ago and i want to fix it up a bit so i have a couple of ???. I want to replace the radio hu but most of the 2 din unit reviews i read has issues with the display very dim in bright daylight. Is this a problem in a HHR? and can anyone recommend one? Also, i saw a old steering wheel mod from this site adding factory volume controls to the steering wheel which i'm interested in doing, but will it work aftermarket stereos or just the factory hu?

Welcome to the site, one word.... Crutchfield! You can list out the parts and order of EBay, or buy from them and get all the correct connections, adapters and brackets, for which ever HU , Speakers, Sub and Amp you choose.

Yeah, Old Blue knows it. Crutchfield is has great customer service, great gear, and they have all the adapters, harnesses, etc. that you need. And they make it super easy to find all the adapters and harnesses you need.

^ X3 on Crutchfield. Bought my Pioneer unit through them, and had them provide a plug-and-play harness for about $40 or so. I had the stereo installed in under 30 minutes.
