New Headunit prob with GMOS-LAN-03
I tried to install my new Pioneer DEH-P6000UB using the GMOS-LAN-03 today and ran into a problem. After connecting all the wires per the included instructions I hooked it up in the car to try it out. With the doors closed I turned on the car and had all 4 speakers (used factory wiring) worked with FM radio. Changed to AM and sound was garbled and only rear speakers worked. I then opened the front doors and all four speakers started started working and sound quality improved to normal. (door chimes also went off very loudly in just left front speaker) Close the doors and back to just rear speakers and crappy quality. I double checked the wiring to the manual and was perfect. Any one else experience anything like this or have any suggestions? I called Crutchfield (where I purchased all equipment) and the tech suggested maybe I received a bad GMOS-LAN-03 unit. They are going to send me another to try, but it will take 2 or 3 days. Any one else experience anything like this or have any suggestions?
The rain stopped long enough to install the replacement Metra GMOS-LAN-03. What a disappointment! I still had the same problem. FM worked perfect, AM not at all until I opened the drivers door and then worked it was perfect. (with door open chime came through the left door speaker, just like it should. I called Crutchfield and the tech was awesome. Was on the line with him for at least an hour working through different ideas. He finally suggested I try hooking up the remote AMP turn on wire from the head unit (blue/white) to the Metras blue/white wire (from 12 pin connecter) and presto the AM worked great. That wire must be an enabler to something which controls the AM signal, what neither of us could figure out. I hope this info helps out anyone else who runs across this problem.
Crutchfield is awesome. It was well worth paying a little extra to get this great support. I can't say enough about how helpful the service guy was and the time he gave. Crutchfield doesn't have much experience with the HHR, they are gonna put this info into there data to help others in the future.
