HHR Check engine light and remote prob

Hello, I have a 2006 HHR. I bought it from a used car dealership. I like the aspect of the the gas mileage and that it had surround airbags. After three months of having it the check engine light came on. I bought and changed the gas cap, went to Auto Zone they said it was emissions what the owners manual referred to and they turned it off. It came back on, we took it to a machanic and they replaced the emission valve. Gas fume sensor, but now the engine light has come on again. After about 6 mos. We are going to take it in again. I am tired of having to pay 80-100.oo for a diagnostic check! I also have a remote that hasn't worked. The bracket that hold the battery in is broken iside the remote. We tried gluing it welding it but it keeps coming undone. The dealership said it wold cost me at least 150.00 dollars just for the remote?! Is that right? I see them on e-bay for as little as 40 dollars, but my question is: Is the dealership the only place that you can get the remote reprogrammed? Thanks

If my crs moment holds...... in your case I'm thinkin' you'll be dealer bound or at least to someone with a tech 1 or whatever chevy is callin' their scanner now days. Now if you had a workin' one you might program the new off the old...... if my crs has things recalled right.

Seems to me you would function the old one and then the new one in a specfic manner or series. To be honest I'd have to read the owners manual for the Chevy..... or maybe it's the kids Honda .... or maybe the Wifey-poo's Ford.
Let me read the manual and get back to ya.

Can't program one FOB with/from another FOB. FOB has to be programed by dealer, they can do up to 4 FOB's to the vehicle. Be sure to take all your FOB's and have them done at the same time or the ones not reprogramed will not work after the reprogram.

Keys can be programed from another working key as described in your Owners Manual. You can find new and refurbished FOB's from several places, just be sure to get the correct part#, some have remote start and some do not.

Shop around, I had two new and one old FOB's with RVS programed for $29 at a Buick/Caddillac dealer including a inside and outside car wash.
