Its always so nice when someone comes on with a question then NEVER comes back to say if the excellent suggestions offered by the coven ,,, um, 'er, members here worked or not.

Well I thought it was probably the radio playing out but after reading this maybe it's the speakers!! Does anyone know if the speakers fixed this problem??
it seems to me odd that ALL door speakers would go bad

With full knowledge that this is a very old thread stirred by a necrocomment, just in case someone sees it -

Probably THOUSANDS of HHR radios have been pointlessly replaced because the base door speakers quit. Three of my my HHR’s had the base speaker and they all did it. Always progressive, beginning with intermittent crackling and/or silence. The tweeters in the A-pillars were fine. Never heard of a failure, though have heard of them being upgraded.

The OEM base speakers were junk, and even the cheapest aftermarket replacement is an improvement.

If cars with the Pioneer Premium option (identifiable by the subwoofer grille in the cargo bay) ever had this problem, I’ve never heard of one, and never had a problem with my two.

Many entries in this forum on this topic, including discussion and how-to’s on door speaker replacement.
