Oddness after installing a new stereo
Oddness after installing a new stereo
First I'd like to say this forum is great and has helped me fix many problems myself so far.
Last night I installed a new stereo in my 2010 HHR LT, I wired it directly into the old wires from the stock unit that I removed. After everything was hooked up the stereo wouldn't power on, there is a LED indicator under the faceplate that shows it has power running to it, but nothing else will work.
In addition to the stereo not working (I figured I'd start checking for loose wires today) when I try to unlock the car using the remote entry nothing happens, when I lock it it will work fine. When I used my key to unlock the door the horn beeped 3 times.
Is there any kind of reset I would need to do to make the stereo work and that would be behind the remote unlock not working?
Thanks in advance.
Also, could someone verify that this is the correct wiring information: http://stereowiringdiagram.info/2010-chevrolet-hhr/

You didn't read all of the instruction and didn't buy all of the adapters.
The car thinks that your radio was stolen. The radio runs through the computer and the chimes run through the radio.
Use the SEARCH box at the top of the page. There is lots of info.

"radio", "radio install". If you don't see the 20 or so pages listed, you haven't scrolled down past the paid searches.
You might even try going to your radio manufacturers web site for detailed instruction. Modern cars are not plug 'n play. For one thing you will probably need a GM LAN adapter, whoever sold you the radio should have all the other parts you need.

As you just found out, you need the LAN adapter and if you have steering wheel controls and/or On Star you will probably need an additional adapter for that. You will possibly need an antenna adapter depending on the stereo model you bought. Last of all, with all those extra little black boxes in the dash you will probably need to cut the back out of the plastic enclosure.
When I added a Pioneer X950BH with backup camera to my LT2, I had to do ALL the above.

there is no switched power for the new radio at the factory harness, extend the red wire from the new deck to the fuse panel at the front of the center console. Tap into the large 12g? green wire, then your radio should power up.
