I'm having a hard time believing that your DIC isn't working because you changed head unit Did 07 change that much Myself along with plenty of other members have aftermarket stereos in their HHR and the only thing we lost was chimes, which in my case wasn't a lost. My Alpine head unit is hardwired with no GM adapters and all my DIC information displays with no problems. Also during my install I had my battery disconnected overnight and my HHR started right up.

I could be wrong but I'm going to say that the OEM stereo has nothing to do with the DIC information. Also on the won't start deal, other members were able to start their HHR with the second set of keys from the dealer. Give it a shot. I maybe wrong here, especially if the 07's changed that much, but I don't believe your stereo has anything to do with DIC.
