I just pulled off the panal to check and found the OnStar box and the other antenna lead going to it.

 

kinda off topic but it was discussed a little earlier. XM and SIRIUS have merged. says so right on my stock reports. I owned stock in SIRIUS ,which was about 8 bucks a share before the merger and is down to about a buck fifty, and now the stock is called SIRIUS XM Satelite radio.

 

I bought CD Radio (now called Sirius) back in 1998 on the tip of a coworker. I purchased 200 shares at about 7 bucks, watched it rise to around 35 for a while and sold off 100 shares, and still have 100 left. I am hoping/expecting it to go up again.

A brief history-CD Radio was developed long before XM, but they ran into technical difficulties and did not get their satellites up until after XM did. There was a lot of positive speculation at the beginning, but it petered out when XM beat them to getting their system working first.

Because the XM and Onstar share the same antenna. As far as the merger goes, yes they are merged but no, the programming is not merged yet. They are still like 2 different companies as far as we are concerned (XM channels and SIRIUS channels). Eventually they will start to combine music channels from what I've read about it. As for the antenna it actually has 3 wires, 2 for onstar and 1 for XM. I don't know why onstar has 2, nor do I know where both go but it does have 2. It doesnt matter where you tap into the XM lead, just do whatever seems easiest :)

 

Quick update-I just ordered 14 foot cable from Brian. Sirius sells a 50 foot extension, way too long. The connectors appear to be simple SMB, not carried by RadioShack.
