Pioneer DEH-P7800MP

ok guys i looked throught the old threads and couldnt find anything about this..

i have the PREMIUM PIONEER sound system with XM, if i were to buy an AFTERMARKET Pioneer DEH-P7800MP would i be able to hook my existing XM to it ? i know the XM uses a model specific Satillite tuner (ie pioneer, jvc, sony etc etc) SO we should currently have a Pioneer Xm Tuner in the HHR, and be able to use the already installed tunner as long as i buy another Pioneer headunit? im sorry is this is a stupid question, i am not very electronic savy

The "Pioneer Premium" system in the HHR is actually made by Panasonic (don't ask!). So, to answer your question - no, the stock XM box will not work with an aftermarket Pioneer HU.

You will need to buy the Pioneer GEX-P920XM ($99), or GEX-P10XMT to interface with an aftermarket Pioneer HU.

Hope it helps,

I couldn't answer that one for you - but my guess is that it's a proprietary piece. Very rarely do "factory" components interface with aftermarket HU's.

Perhaps Tokyo can elighten you better on this...

Mike hit the nail on the head. The interface is proprietary to the OEM unit in your car, (and a few of GM's others), but will not be compatible with an aftermarket unit such as yours.

ya most places have went to just plain say "no we cant install an after market unit in your car" cause of GM's low speed computer something or another. and if they do my check engine lights will come on and will screw stuff up......but they cant seem to give me specifics.... grrrrrrrrr

i just want to go to bestbuy, circuit city and have an aftermarket HU installed !! and drive out an hour later and not have to worry about my car going buzzerk

thanks guys for all your help !

well, i spoke with my local dealership this morning and the service manager said with the GM computer system, you MUST install the LAN adaptor if you put in an aftermarket head unit, he said you lose the things we have spoke about (door, lowfuel chimes PLUS the drivers airbag operation !! he said that if you install an aftermarket head unit without the LAN adaptor the computer senses there are NO passangers in the passanger seat and WILL NOT deploy the airbag on impact...... man would i feel like a total POS if my wife were in the passanger seat and we were in an accident.
