Planning a HU upgrade and sub/amp install.
Hello everyone,
My 2010 HHR SS has the factory amplified Pioneer system with the subwoofer in the rear. The built in USB port seems to be very sporadically failing and I really enjoy having Bluetooth, so I am looking to upgrade my head unit, as well as add my sub/amp that I have from my old car. I did a little research on here but there seems to be so much info floating around, I felt like my brain was going to explode. I understand that to retain warning chimes and RAP, I need to buy some sort of interface module. I saw a few on Crutchfield but they were a little more than I wanted to spend at the moment. I went to my local Walmart and saw that they had this which seems to support the HHR (at least it says it does on the back of the box) but doesn't mention anything about the amplified system. I am not sure if the harness is different. I am trying to see if anyone has used this and had success? I do not have OnStar so I am not worried about keeping that functionality. I am also not concerned with keeping the factory sub itself and can unplug it if need be. Also, my current aftermarket head unit that I plan to put in the car does not support steering wheel controls but I will be upgrading later. I just want to go with the simplest and most cost effective route in terms of getting my aftermarket Kenwood head unit to work correctly, so that I can get my sub and amp wired up in the rear. Anyone have any pointers or experience with using the kit I linked above?
Thanks!

Have a look thru Crutchfield website, they list all HU that fit the HHR and the adapters to keep the factory steering wheel controls and the blinker clicking. And sometimes they are less expensive.
