Going to get a flat piece of plastic or metal and flush mount my $3 ebay voltage meter in the center left vent.

I never use heat or AC anyway so it's not a loss.

Was going to use the "dim/traction/passenger air bag notification" but I would have to cut it and I don't want to do that.

Open to suggestions on other placements, and smaller meters that would fit somewhere nicely.

Either completely block off the vent or seal off the unit as even though you say you dont use the air system there is always air moving in it along with moisture...

I will probably stuff a sock in there with some electrical tape around the opening.

Any suggestions on material to seal the meter off?

First try with a DVD case. Looks good. But the plastic cracks way too easily and I don't think I can cut out the slot for the meter without ruining the piece.

to anyone wanting to do this, all you have to do is remove the back seats (8 nuts/bolts)

Depending on where you want to run the meter, the cupholder snap in piece and just pull back one of the panels near the gas pedal.

hardest part was just removing the rear seats.

Why did you remove the back seat?

 

I ran the wires inside the 4awg stock wiring.

 

If your handy with plastic..can assemble a small box to mount on backside of close off plate,and a dab or RTV where the wires run thru will do it. Thin Plexiglass and some glue..spray it a color of choice when done, that way you can flush mount.

 

I couldn't see the pic before. It looks like you did a good job cutting it so far. Did you end up cutting the opening yet?

 

Not yet. The material (dvd case) is too brittle.

I just placed it back in the vent for now.

It's reading 14.8 and used to read 14.4 on the cigarette lighter.

I only have 2 single 4 ohm subs so I can't really push the amp (saz 1500dv1) in 1 ohm to it's limits

I can say for sure that 1ohm is using more amperes than what the stock alternator can provide though. It was regularly going below 13v when pushed hard. Plus I can't account for box rise.

Was thinking of getting a used HC600 for $50 or so (50 fareds, 800 amps) as a starter/test secondary battery and see how it does.

Still looking for better subs as well.

 

Menards has sheets of black ABS plastic, one side smooth one side textured. Would work very well.

Check other home center big box stores if no Menards near you.

At our Menards it's near the Windows on a rack with all kinds of sheet plastics. You can buy different sized sheets.
