I figured I make a new thread for this install for easier reference. I bought this upgrade kit from Walmart for $67, comes with four speakers. Head unit is mechless, and has apple car play/android auto as well as inputs for front and rear cameras, SWC and subwoofer outputs. I have had good luck with Power Acoustik in the past, so i decided to give it a shot. Didn't take pictures of the install, but this is more of a post about issues with the install than the install itself
First off, I have a problem getting the access ASWC-1 to recognize the radio. That's going to require a call to access, so I'll update on that later.
After installing and testing functions, I started saving radio stations. At this point, the radio locked up. A Google search revealed that a firmware update was needed, so I downloaded from the Power Acoustik web site and installed. Problem solved! So, except for those two issues, the head unit is pretty good for the price. It takes about 15 seconds to boot up, and if I have my phone plugged in Google maps comes up as a default and whatever music I was last listening to starts automatically. Plugging in the phone after boot up, it only take a second or two for Android Auto to kick in.
The sound is decent, with only slight distortion coming in at full volume.
I liked the stock radio, but I wanted to listen to satellite radio. SiriusXM charges you for each radio, but you can have the app on as many devices as you want. I tried the various bluetooth adapters out there but found them lacking. Android Auto allows me to use all the driving and audio features of my phone without having to hang it on my dash.
Speaking of the phone, I'm designing and 3D printing a holster that I can mount to the side of the center console that will have the USB cord incorporated. This way I can just drop the phone in the holster and it will sync up to the radio. I wish this unit had a rear USB so I could hide the cable, but I bought a second one that I'm going to open up to try and add one.
Yes, his issue was the ASWC-1 wouldn't recognize the car, mine won't recognize the radio. To be fair, Power Acoustik isn't in their list, so I'm hoping another brand's setting will work. I also need to try switching the KEY 1 and KEY 2 wires from the radio. When I have a full day to mess with it I'll update. I do gave a CRUX adapter that says it supports Power Acoustik, but it doesn't support OnStar 🤔 so I might see if I can bash em together so to speak. That's a future me problem, I'll update when I get it working
Well, with this head unit I can have SWC, or OnStar, but not both.
The Android Auto is nice, modified the little useless cubby in front of the shifter to slot in my phone and have it connect to the head unit. 3D printed the holster and hot glued it to the bottom of the cubby/switch panel
While I was at it, I replaced the cig lighter with a USB charge port. Yes, my panel is optioned with the rare smoker's package.
And since I had the 3D printer fired up, I printed a key fob

can I ask how you make it work with ASWC-1 I have the same issue and don’t know what type I should use
I really like Crutchfield for these newer cars. Their adapters and install kits save butchering the wiring harness and screwing things up. The stock radio actually sounds pretty good the speakers are what goes bad. I would like to be able to link my phone etc so I will probably be replacing mine sometime soon.
