Radar Detector Hardwire Help?

Hey Forum,

I'm putting this in the Audio & Video tab since it involves wiring. I purchased a Whistler CR70 Radar Detector Last week and it's currently powered by my Cigarette Lighter. I read that Detectors detect more (Other than Laser) when they are placed higher up since it gets a stronger signal. I purchased a Hardwire which came today so I dont have an ugly wire hanging from my mirror area infront of my windshield, all the way down to my cigarette lighter. Also so I can charge my GPS.
The assistant at Autozone gave me a pack of these (Photo Below) and explained how I set it up. My question is, Is there an accessory wire at the end of the Cigarette Lighter in the HHR? He said there should be a free wire that I will crimp to my black wire. I didn't notice a wire while removing my Waterfall for painting.

For the hot wire, yes there is, but it is always hot. I think there is a ground also.

You would be better off using a switched circuit from the inside fuse box.

Hmm. I don't like the concept of hooking it up to a wire that is always live. Thank you very much for your input Donbrew. So basically I should get a fuse tap, and connect that to the radio Fuse and then get one of those connectors with the round metal piece that goes behind a screw for the ground?

Is there a problem with links? Suddenly I'm having to point out that somebody has posted a link. Not just you. I'm feeling invisible.

Yep, I did :) I am going to save the picture so I can look at the pieces he used when I am at the store. I'm not familiar with the names of the pieces so If an assistant asked to help I wouldnt know what to call them

They are called fuse taps or add-a-fuse. They are in the wiring section.

Just nobody seems to see links. If there is a problem we need to know about it and get it fixed

Ok Thanks for the help Donbrew. I will be setting that up tomorrow for my trip to the Car Show Saturday. Your Link worked for me but I'm not sure if anyone else who viewed this post had trouble or not. I'm sure the links work fine, people just may not be looking hard enough.
