Rear speakers not working

2011 HHR with an aftermarket Sony CD/ media player ( about 4 years old) and 4 new door speakers RR speaker puts out very little sound. LR is nothing. I have checked these new speakers and flipped there locations and nothing changes. I dont believe the Sony stereo is at fault. All the wiring is done thru a Crutchfield adapter and all connections were soldered and shrink wrapped. Everything worked for 2 years --207k on it. I even cut off the factory speaker connections off and added new ones, again soldered and shrink wrapped. Im wondering if the factory speaker wires have been known to break/ go bad and if so , where to look.

I’ve wrestled with a broken speaker wire near the door hinge.

There’s something to be said for running all new speaker wires anyway. The factory ones are pretty skinny. Think of all the weight and cost GM saved.

Okay, I havent looked at it yet but this afternoon I will. I have a spool of speaker wire. Once inside the door pillar, do they run under the carpet?

The only place they flex is inside the door conduit. Could be the connector on the conduit.

Before you go fishing wires you could jumper wire direct from the radio to the speaker as a test. If you can figure out what wire to tap into. Which would need to do anyway to run new wires.

Thanks. didnt get a chance yesterday to look at it. Another connection might be the culprit. Thanks for that info.

Pulled the connections apart, they looked fine. Sprayed some electrical contact cleaner on them. Snapped them together and they are working again. Problem solved. Thanks for the connection info, I didnt know about that.
