Here is what mine looks like. I wanted to keep the space, but have nice bass to go with it.

I added a JL 8 inch sub. I took the stock box out and added 2 layers of sound deadening to the inside and outside to try and seal the box. the stock box is crap. If you have a chance replace it with fiberglass. I also added another amp to power it. The JL sub stuck out farther so I had to mount the grill to the outside of the panel.

Hey I have a question regarding the Kenwood KFC-XW800F. Where did you get the speaker cover for it?

Hey all, My 06 LT has the cut out for the Sub but if I am interested in installing a sub in that spot what will I need to do? I feel it should be an easy install but in HHRs with no pre existing sub in that location, is anything behind that panel or will I need to build something to attach the sub to etc?

Any information would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

There is a small plastic sub box behind the panel.

Sometimes they come up for sale in the Classifieds. Look there and see if any are available, if not post a "wanted" thread in the classifieds.

Otherwise you can put it in a seperate box in back. Even placing it flush with or under the rear floor in the spare tire area.

Thanks for the info. After looking at other threads, the install of a sub behind that panel looks like a pain. So I may rethink the placment of a sub and buy a box. I am looking at options.

Check out Truckin Magazine online for their article on a Budget HHR stereo install, you might like the sub install.

I found the OEM piece I need on http://www.pamsauto.com/default.aspx. I put in a best offer and went low on offer waiting to see what happens. All I really want is the box. I don't need the sub or amp. I just think it would be such a clean install if I used the pre-exisiting sub area.
