Shnog goes Boom
I'm going to buy Infinity Reference series speakers and amps, I like their quality and they fit my budget. The amp I want is their 600 watt 6 channel (I'll be using it in 5 channel mode), but I'm not sure I'll be able to fit it under the adjustable shelf area. If the 6 channel doesn't fit, I'm going with their 4channel which is rated at 111RMS x 4 (front component and rear 6.5 speakers) and there 2 channel (bridged, powering the sub) that is rated at 270+RMS x 1.

Here are some graphs that were the results of tests done by Richard Clark and David Navone..

Calling all Audio Gurus...
Okay lets say you have some door speakers that are rated at 60W RMS. You've narrowed your search to two amps. One is rated at 70W RMS and the other is at 40W RMS. Which one do you pick?
Do you want to go over or under your speaker's rated RMS? If you do go over, are you going to blow your speakers?

70W...
Clipping is evil... Underpowered amps deliver clipping more often than Domino's delivers pizzas. (Of course, there's more detail to it than that, let the arguuments begin). One is more likely to destroy a driver with clipping than too much power.

Yeah, Meiji decided (after the Shogunate), to rename Edo to Tokyo, to signify Japan's status as powerful Eastern capital city. However, do you know who established Edo as the governmental center of Japan (of course, excluding the Emporer's palace in Kyoto)? (Jeopardy theme plays in the background)..
Of course, I'm not 138 years old, so Edo doesn't really work for me... lol
The RMS ratings we discussed most definately apply to subs. Have you narrowed down a bit more what you're looking to have installed?

As far as my setup, I've already started buying the speakers, they will all be infiniti reference components and the sub, if I can fit it, will be a 10" perfect series. The amps I'm undecided. I need to head to my local best buy with measuring tape and find out what fits underneath the adjustable shelf in the back. I've been researching the Alpine "V" amps and that's were I got the 40w & 70w RMS numbers (4 channel).
What about that possible custom sub enclosure you were thinking about?

Ah... Nice one! It was Tokugawa! As a Vietnamese-Irish American born in Korea, and having served in Japan for about 10 years, I had to brush up on my studies! Omedeto!
It turns out the bins forward of the parcel tray are useless for the project we spoke of earlier. They're just a bit too slim to provide space for a sub, though for 6.5" pods they'd work nicely. And behind the panel, in the stock location for the Pioneer pod, is also a no-no... A sub is going to need more airspace than that area has to offer, it looks like it's pre-fab time for 'ya, bud!
