I installed LED lights on my ride. :)

Where did you run the yellow wire to ?

But that's different because they include a transformer.

I guess I was wrong, you just need a resistor and not a capacitor also.

Hey Adam
Where did you run the yellow wire to ? On your Varad LED system

adamlowery 02-17-2006 03:06 PM

I'll have to check it when I get home. Its been a long time since I ve even looked at it.

OK, I think the culprit here is the VARAD led itself. I think the yellow input wire is feeding back into the ignition circuit somehow.

First though, verify you have the correct ignition wire. The wire you need is one that shows 12V when the car is on, and shows ground when the car is off. (Use a computer-safe testlight or multimeter to do this.) If you have the correct wire, then we'll go to the next step:

Get a 1 watt, 50V PIV diode. (At least. Bigger is OK.) diconnect the yellow wire from the ignition wire and connect it to the non-striped end of the diode. Connect the striped end of the diode to the ignition. That should fix the problem, because the diode will block any current from going back into the ignition wire.

Alternatively, you could use a 5 pin relay. Connect it as follows:

Terminal 86 and 30 connect to ground.
Terminal 85 connect to IGNITION ON
Terminal 87a connect to your yellow wire.
Do not use terminal 87.

The relay will connect the yellow wire to ground until you start the car, which will then disconnect and turn the LED off.

Hey BigJP, you get it working OK??
