Sub install questions... help my obi won
Hey all. Sorry to post up so early. I wanted to take the time to say you guys have a great site here. I've looked threw several threads with similar things that bother me with the HHR and now I know Im not the only one with these problems. Allow me to digress. Currently Im working on my brothers HHR. He recently joined the national guard and is away at boot camp. So Im taking the time to fix his badly worn HHR for him while he's away. I've fixed a cracked windshield tinted the HHR with Limo all round and just a hint of tint on the front. I changed the oil and had it flushed, he was ten thousand miles over,had the carpet cleaned, had the car buffed and waxed(damage to paint from snow) and got a badly needed alignment. He also needs a rim replaced and a new nuckle and strut(he curbed something fierce). At anyrate, the last and most fun aspect of this project is installing a car stereo. Im gonna end up getting him a indash DVD player but in the mean time I wanted to install the two 12' subs I'm giving him and I've got about five amps im gonna see which one works best in his "new" ride. while I wait on the new deck to arrive.
I just wanted to install a hi/lo kit up to the rear sub. My problem is that there's four wires that run to that sub and for the Hi/Lo kit I only need two wires. So Im wondering which one's to use.
1. d-bu/white =+
2. L-gn/bk =-
3. D-GN =+
4. L-Bu/Bk =-
battery = red/white
ground = black/white
remote = pink
I've already got the pdf file explaing which wires are what but I just need to know if I should use a combo of 1/2 or 3/4 or the alternative 1/4;2/3... I don't wanna mess anything up but like I said its not my car and I want to make sure im perfect on this. As a side question. Is a hi/lo kit going to give me more engine noise than I have now? Its pretty bad for a stock vehicle. I'd have to assume its because they ran the battery all the way to the back of the car.
I'd like to take this time to say thanks in advance for all the help. Im doing this tomorrow so Im glad I found the best HHR forum to ask my questions.

https://www.chevyhhr.net/forums/audio-video-17/instructions-install-aftermarket-amp-sub-2891/ this guy suggests using a dark blue and a light blue speaker wire... thats from a totally different connector.... I think this is from the input... would this be a wiser choice?... before or after the factory amp?
Oh and a Hi/Lo kit is also called a line converter on this forum... if it helps anyone.... thanks im on the way to pickup some parts I hope you guys help me soon

The car stereo place I went to used the hi/lo for amp/sub have engine whine, maybe it was something else. My advice is wait for amp and sub when you put in the radio and run rca's to it instead of hi/lo. Thats my

I'd like to give some advice but I just went and got an aftermarket radio (Alpine) and installed all new wiring. I don't like the OEM setup and the stock wires and harness look too flimsy for my liking.
After inspecting the stock wiring during my install, I wouldn't trust it for any type of stereo upgrades. My advice, go aftermarket and install a new radio and wiring. But this is probably what you don't want to hear and may be the reason you haven't gotten the response you've wanted...

yeah... in desperation I contacted another audio and video forum and they pretty much said the same things you guys are.. forget the Hi/lo and just put in an aftermarket deck. I have three or four just laying around my house and I've decided to just give him the best one I have.... till the other deck arives... I went to some places to try and pickup the wiring harness and you'll never believe the price quotes people are giving me... a hundred and sixty dollars for just the harness... no install....after yelling at the management at a couple of big name audio shops I searched the internet and found one for twenty six dollars brand new with three day shipping(faster than the new deck is coming in) so all problems are solved... unless you guys want to give some advice on how to run the RCA's.. left or right side?... which one will reduce the whining noise?.. thanks to all who responded
Ok.. I've run into another problem.. I've decided to install a new HU and the wiring harness that I've ordered from americaninternational.net(part number not listed on their site) dosn't have a switched twelve volt tied to the harness.. I have to use another wire to tie into the fuse block(this is what you get for a twenty two dollar harness).... any clue as to what fuse I should use to make this happen?... thanks to all who respond
