I have a hookup of 2 12in subs with a 1500w amp and also a aftermarkert head unit, as my system turns on i hear a humming sound through my subs and also a pop noise as i apply my breaks, what could be the cause of this?

 

Welcome to the site Tylorp, I don't have the answer for you, I had to have someone else do the stereo swap, it does take a couple adapters.

 

Sound like a ground loop. Make sure you have a good ground.
(DON'T GROUND TO THE NEG. BATTERY POST). Scrape the paint away from some where close to your amp and put a star locking washer on both sides of your terminal on your ground wire. If you still are having problems then run a wire from the amp frame to the radio frame. If there is still a problem could be a bad patch cord or to clost to the car wiring harness or worse yet a bad connection inside the amp. Hope this helps.

Try making sure your ground is a good connection. If everything checks out, try using a ground loop isolator. you can get one from your local audio shop for like $25. the humming sounds like electricval feed back, the poping with the brakes almost confirms it. keep us updated.

 

I do not really agree with this. Most cars the battery is in the front while the amps are in the back. This creates run lengths that are not conducive to grounds. BUT in our cars the amp is within 2-3 feet of the amps typically. In this case, for both my HHR and my Ion, I have my amps grounded to the same bolt that the battery ground uses which is the same as grounding to the battery itself. No noise in either system.

But if the ground is going to be elsewhere then every thing else said by Dan I would suggest too.

 

My amp is mounted on the back of my rear seat, is this a good place or should i change it. also i have my wires running to my front engine but is not sure what their connected to.

 

?!?!?!? Your battery is uner the cargo panel in the rear?!?! hopefully your Positive cable isnt connect to the jump point in you engine bay?!

 

im assuming it is, the guys that hooked up my system was under the hood and not in the cargo panel at all.. could this be the cause of the problems?

 

Pop the hood and take a look. Look on the drivers side of the eng bay. In the back hatch remove the load tray and then unscrew the black plastic round thing in the center. This holds down the plastic tub surrounding it and the spare tire. Take this plastic tub out and you can see the battery on the passanger side rea most corner.
