tweeter replacement

They are located in the front pillars and the one thing that bugs me is the oval "airbag" cover towards the top. These speakers make an awful crackling sound when car is started, well just the drivers side does. Are these something I should leave alone ( airbag!!!) area or is it an easy job? thanks

This may help. https://www.chevyhhr.net/forums/how-...-pillar-54138/

Not a hard job, just be careful

Rocket Dawg 06-15-2022 07:15 AM

Thanks, that looks like a very easy job now.

"Airbag" is a statement not a warning. It just covers the bolt.

It may not be a problem with the speaker itself. If it only happens on startup and the speaker works fine the rest of the time, it surely is some other electrical problem. I had a 2008 that would make a single “pop” noise at random times. Assumed it was the driver door speaker but that would have been the pillar tweeter too, as they are simply wired parallel, i understand. Have heard of others with similar issues.

If you can’t track it down, you might not even notice if you just disconnect it.

Those tweeters should be a dime a dozen used.

Im gonna use a shop vac hose and see if they are working. Kinda like a stethoscope. The noise starts about 3 seconds after start up and lasts about 1 second. It happens before the radio comes to life. Its annoying. I have an aftermarket Sony device and 4 newer crutchfield speakers. It sounds decent, not great. The Bose system in my Silverado is about the best system Ive ever heard. I'll try to unplug them at first.

So why blame the tweeters? The radio is getting power when you turn the key.
