Use existing XM antennae
Use existing XM antennae
Have an 06 with the Premium sound package and I cancelled the XM/Siruis subscription, but would like to use the existing sat. antennae on my portable XM receiver. I've read the antennae threads and understand there will be some interior work to get to the original XM box. Is there an adapter available to convert the GM factory connections to the antennae connection on the XM docking station?
The wire from the factory XM antenna is something like a miniaturized coaxial cable.
I have a "dead" antenna with its connector, when I get back home this weekend I'll scoot to Radio Shack to see if they have anything that'll mate up to it.
One complication(possibly insurmountable), the factory XM antenna has an integral signal boosting amplifier that recieves power from the OEM XM module.
So you may have an easier time of it, by replacing the OEM antenna with an aftermarket unit and snaking the wiring along the path used by the factory wiring harnesd.

I have a 2010 HHR but year shouldn't matter...I just used the factory antenna coming down from the roof...it just plugs right in to your aftermarket unit. I have an XM tuner box that i mounted in the back in the factory location. If you are using a separate XM system (through your factory FM tuner) you'll just need an extension to reach to the front of the car.
I have the small XM tuner that fits in a docking station. I have a docking station for the house and one for a motorhome. Since the motorhome sits most of the time I would like to have the HHR setup for the docking station also. Not too concerned with plugging into the lighter for power, but I didn't want to purchase and install an antenna for the docking station.
