Thats strange, I thought the sub in the back left quarterpanel comes with the steering wheel radio controls.
The base stereo has no CAT button. If you have a CAT, then it is the XM upgradeable system.
There are aftermarket adapters that use the wheel controls, some have used the GM PAL adapter.

I'm buying an XM upgrade for my LT1 through the dealer. They get their parts through a GM approved aftermarket dealer. It's on backorder, but is scheduled to arrive in 2-3 weeks. Does your vehicle have the shark fin antenna at the rear of the roof? Mine doesn't, so I'm waiting to see what I'll have to do to make the upgrade work.

The PAL adapter will not let you keep steering wheel controls. It does let you keep all of the chimes though. To keep steering wheel controls, your new HU must have a remote control and then you have to install a STEERING WHEEL CONTROL MODULE - PAC SW1PS.

Adding to the confusion

On my radio, I have the CAT button, so I know it's XM upgradeable. I already have a dash-top XM receiver from my previous car. Can I use this to hook up and has anyone done this before? Just wondering what wiring I need???

to wire it to the radio directly im pretty sure that you have to use the gm reciever. you could alwaus use a mini jack cable and plug in that way
