Brakes

Just finished searching this subject on the forum here and am somewhat surprised to find nothing. My '06 LT (77,000 miles) appears near ready for some brake pads. So I did some poking around on the net and was astonished by the options. I do a fair amount of driving on twisty mountain roads. The rotors appear to be in excellent condition so I'm thinking pads only. Would welcome any opinions on brands and materials and experiences.

Ceramic, everyones got a fav. I have had good luck getting the cheapest I can find. I figure on 70,000 miles as long as I manually adjust the rears. When the groove in the pad is gone they are worn out.

X2, the ceramic pads are very good and much less brake dust.

However, I forgot to say regardless of what the rotors look like, they must be mic'd for thickness.

Okay....I was just doing a little more 'shopping' on the line and came across (on eBay) a rotor/ pad 'kit' for $55.98. The pads are 'ceramic' and the rotors are drilled and slotted. That strikes me as a hell of deal. The obvious question is are they worth a damn? Since I do a fair amount of mountain driving I could see where rotors like that might be nice.

Drilled and slotted are for show only, does not affect function.
If that is the "premium" set from PrimeChoice I can say I had very good experience with them. PrimeChoice is on top of my personal good vendor list.

My high end rotors aren’t drilled nor slotted, more surface for the brake pad to grip.
I have had those before , not a real good deal.

The brake kit I saw on eBay was the 'Performance silver' kit from Prime Choice. Have to disagree with you guys that they (drilled & slotted rotors) are show and no go. If you look at the rotors on any road course car you're going to see them. Help against brake fade, which is a concern when coming down mountain passes. donbrew….your comment on manually adjusting the rear drums finally sunk in. Don't they adjust themselves? Now that I think about it the rear wheels do spin quite freely.

Rear brakes are supposed to self adjust but the system doesn't work very well...

I simply convey, my experiences with drilled and slotted rotors, on my LS, no better stopping, why? Not enough heat into the pads, unless you’re racing and you want the lite weight
