I have a HHR 2LT.... I am trying to decide whether to go with 18" wheels and then leave it alone or lower it with existing wheels-17 inchers. I do not want to do both. Which effects the ride less? Which has the most impact looks wise? Will I be scraping the bumper all of the time if I lower?

Remember when you lower your vehicle it also limits places you can go.

I pondered lowering mine until my wife informed me of 2 things................
1. Money doesn't grow on trees (tell my kids that)
2. Everytime I pull into a parking space with a concrete berm or a sidewalk/curb, I hit it!

As soon as I wear that plastic deflector down, I will be going with armor plating under the front bumper.

I have the 17" stock rims, Gold-Line lowering spring kit and Triple Lake side pipes. The ride is a wee bit stiffer. I haven't hit or scrapped yet. But, I do go SLOW over stuff I think might hit. Thats just one of the things that goes with going for that 'just right' look! Small price to pay for lookin' good!

...and Firewatcher, my dad told me long ago, if you wait until you can afford something before you do it, you'll never do it because you'll never afford it. Just do it!

My saying, it's better to beg for forgiveness than ask for permission! (so, just do it!)

Couldn't have said it better myself!

From your Avatar I see you live in N.Y. I used to live in N.Y. and those winters are no joke. Because of that I wouldn't recommend lowering with stocks. Especially if you go Goldlines.

Go with the aftermarket 18's, no drop, they will look good (see Erf2U) and when winter comes around put your stock 17's on. That way you have clearance for the winter and looks for the summer....But in the end it will be your decision.

If only I wasn't on a fixed income, and had a smart kid who goes to a great school.....if only I didn't have my head up my a** when I bought mine in the first place......... If I had only bought the silver HHR that I took for a test drive............you win some, you lose some. Next time around I'm doing it right!

I went the route of lowering it and leaving 17" wheels on. I am very happy with my decision.
