I have a 2009 2.4 LT,about a year ago I replaced the oem front sway bar links with the Moog kit (#750012) as suggested by someone here on the Forum but after only a short time the damn clunk was back and driving me nuts.Before I get rid of the car I would like to know if there's anything else I could try to solve the problem.Any help would be greatly appreciated!

 

Did you re-torque them after a few miles? I had to re-torque mine and once done the clunk was gone.

Yes retorque the nuts, most shops just rattle them tight with an air wrench and they can loosen up!
Some shops won't grease them either, fully convinced there are no grease zerk son an HHR!

 

Have you considered that the clunking might be caused by something else? Such as sway bar bushings, ball joints, lower control arm bushings?

Don't assume it's the links until you actually get under the car and verify.

 

Thanks for the answers,I was thinking of replacing the whole steering gear and linkage (gear assembly package part # 25956916),the stabilizer bar bushings (maybe polyurethane) and see what happens.If the noise disappears I will keep the car otherwise I'll get rid of it and this one will be my last Chevrolet!

Donbrew,I don't care if you don't care.My phrase was out of frustration about the quality of some components of this car,I'm not the only one on this forum to complain (some of them used even harsher words) I had to replace the cheap bowtie in the rear 4 ( four) times and I still have a crappy looking one.Let me be clear,I like the car,I simply find its quality questionable.

 

OKAY! But have you bothered to read the TSB diagnostic document that I posted before piling more money on the problem? That is the actual point of my posting and why the link is in my sig, I know that searching is a burden, so I try to make it easy.

The reason most people post "This is the last Chevy I buy" is because they think that this site has some sort of connection to GM.

In fact, GM social media folks sometimes monitor keywords like "recall", but they can only try to calm emotions down. They are are normal member of the forum. That is the entire connection.

If you think these 5-10 year old cars have quality problems, try a few other internet sites. At least our airbags are not trying to kill us.
