Shims
I think I’ll try to contact Speedi Sleeve after the weekend and see what they suggest. I’m sure they make one the correct size, still concerned about the glands on the axle stub and wether or not the sleeve will block lubrication.
I used this kit to cure the passenger side leaking seals and axle movement in my 2011 automatic

I don’t know if they supply a similar kit for the manual transmission, can’t hurt to call them.
here is they’re link

Shims
I’ll give them a call as well. Thank you for the link. I find it odd that I have up/down and side to side movement but not a drop of a leak around the seal, hopefully I didn’t create a problem by removing the original seal to try to fit the shim. Thanks for your time and Happy New Year.
What lubrication of the axle are you worried about? The tripot is packed with grease. The seal is to keep ATF inside the trans ( it came from the factory with ATF).
Has the axle been replaced? Maybe the wrong part was installed or the old part is worn out or you are worried about nothing.
Is there some noise or performance issue? The tripot has a bit of slack in it, in all directions.
One member found that the axle was not locked in, somehow the circlip popped out of the groove.

Front end noise
My concern is the axle seal drying out prematurely if a shim is fitted on the portion of the axle that has the machined grooves/glands. My understanding is that the purpose of the grooves is to carry lubricants to help keep the seal viable. I’ve never had a seal leak since I’ve owned the car which now has 130K. The excessive play up and down and side to side of the axle in the transmission is what I’m trying to address, the drivers side axle has zero movement therefore no rattle. The entire front suspension and steering assembly has been replaced in the last few months including the motor/transmission mounts, so when I drive slowly over rough surfaces and get a constant rattling noise I went to the only other component that might be the problem. BTW, the axle has been replaced twice with a new(not rebuilt) units with no change in the amount of play. I’m open to any suggestions or ideas, this really frustrating.
If we look at the output shaft in the seal , the axle slides over it on the splines and the clip ring secures it.
if that bushing is worn then you must remove the old bushing and gently drive in a the new bushing. I can’t see if it’s a bearing that the steel inner race would wear, as it spins a lot with the output shaft.
