If you like handling,,,, DONT drive an SS. You will buy it , then get rid of the stock tires, I'd guess the first owner has already done that. Install a XXX swaybar, and go find some curves, oh yea try to get that stupid smile off your face. If smile needs to be bigger ,,install Stg1, repeat the find curves step.

Not that the lower models are "bad" in any way but the 2LT is a sweet package.
Hmm...I have a 2.4l and its a 1LT. Mine came with 16" alloys, FE1 suspension and no ABS. Or is the 5spd considered a 1LT all together? This could have changed though shortly after production started as my HHR rolled off the line in 01/06. My friend has an '08 2LT and does not have leather, but does have FE3 and 17" wheels, etc.

You probably have the 1LT with the extra cost upgrade of the 2.4 engine

2.4L was optional in the 1LT..... It was the only engine available in the 2LT. FE3 was only available in the 2LT...... Hope that clears up some of the "fog".

Also, my 2LT had a cloth seat option (down-grade) instead of the standard leather.

I recently put in an Eibach Pro spring kit, SS rear shocks, and a TTR sway bar totaling about $450. Now my HHR is balls! My friend has a loaded VW CC(sweet car BTW) and we both agree my car handles better. Eibach springs made the biggest difference to me.

Though to be honest, I thought even the FE1 suspension was solid. If the HHR feels sluggish, what are you comparing it to? I had a '96 Chev Cav and the FE1 suspension in the HHR felt night/day better and it is much heavier and taller.

Yeah. Thanks. There is a bazillion ways cars are spec'd. I checked the vin on a Solstice I was going to get a few months ago and there was no other Sol produced with the same exact spec. Our cars appear to be the same, but they are in-fact unique.

Are there options to improve breaking on the hhr? Go thru looks like the idea of cobalt rear disc have come up but I like a kit to make sure I don't screw up and get the wrong parts.

Would higher quality pads make any diff? Or do I need to do motors and caliber?

Warhawk I just switched to some premium ceramic pads. No more dust and very smooth operation. I'll buy new rotors when these pads wear out. Don't forget to seat them well you can feel them getting locked in as you do it.
