Installed TTR Sway Bar

Got my TTR sway bar today... Within 10 minutes I was out installing it. It wasn't quite as easy as everyone made it sound, but it wasn't too bad. Hardest part was holding it up, I ended up using zip ties to hold it. Oh, and crawling under was hard too...not much room!

I went down the road a ways to where it winds around the river, and tried it out... Unfortunately all the farmers in their trucks want to go 35mph like the sign says, I want to go 60! Did feel a difference! Not quite sure if it was worth the money, but oh well. Still cool though!:thumb:

twistrman 03-03-2010 03:02 PM

you'll notice it more and more as you go. the body roll on mine was extreme before i put the bar on. I can also take corners pretty fast.

i had a hard install too, no ramps or anything, so yeah, trying to cram myself under the car, and it was snowing out. I think most people have ramps or a jack, which those it would take a few minutes.

peevlos 03-03-2010 05:48 PM

did mine flat on the ground also... it was pretty tight, but only took about 15-20 minutes to install.
zip-ties where key. ;)
notice it more in hard fast cornering, definitely reduced rear body roll

urbexHHR 03-03-2010 09:21 PM

Oh don't get me wrong, I really notice it! Not sure though if I would have paid that much for it again, but I don't know... I mean I wasn't expecting a sports car out of it, but it sure is nice! :thumb:

Eric- If you did not use Loc-Tite on the bolts, check them once in a while for proper torque...
That's the last thing anyone needs coming loose.. EEK !!

Next perhaps some GM cobalt rear leveling springs. Then you should be good to go..

& they are as simple to install as changing a tire..

solman98 03-04-2010 07:16 AM

I went into their web site to check the shipping on mine. It showed nothing. I asked about the shipping info and was directed to an EBay site to buy one....:wtf:

I hope it's been shipped......

EDIT: Just arrived. I'll get it put on tomorrow, weather permitting.

TurboTechRacing 03-04-2010 10:01 AM

Miss communication, glad it showed up :)

urbexHHR 03-04-2010 10:02 PM

So my dad was just looking at the bar, and decided to check the tightness of the bolts. He said they were very loose, and tightened them back up. Is it normal for them to come that loose after a day or two? I was just expecting a little bit, but he said it seemed concerning... I know I put them on tight...

Maybe now I'll notice more of a difference!

Although the circle on-ramp to I-69 today was quite fun!

biglefthhr 03-04-2010 10:41 PM

Got mine today installed in 20 mins, big difference, it must be the combo of the eibach pro kit and the ttr sway bar but amazing in the corners, there are a few turns I usually hit at 50 tried em at 60 and it stuck like glue, great product!!!!!!!!:thumb::thumb::thumb:

If you were using a wrench or a 3/8 drive socket set you probably didn't get enough umph on it.....Torquing is best for suspension parts....

sleeper 03-04-2010 11:26 PM

Eric-

yes they need checked.. Or stop by the auto-parts store & get a small tube of Blue Loc-Tite. Bout $5. retail.

Remove one bolt, shake the Loc-Tite, then add a couple drops on the bolt threads & re-install..Tighten Really Good. & repeat 3 more times..

Sounds like no torque wrench there, but they gotta be tight..

Mine have never come loose in well over 1000 miles (but I do check 'em)...And they are Loc-Tited & Torqued to 45 ft lbs..

^^^Same Here^^^

I do love white panels!!!

urbexHHR 03-05-2010 07:04 AM

(Sorry, I don't know this...)

What is a torque wrench? Is this one that is from a air compressor? My dad has one of those, but I have no clue how to use it.... I just used a 15mm socket wrench. That's all the directions said I thought.

bad03xtreme 03-05-2010 08:06 AM

It is a wrench that has different torque settings so you do not over/under tighten bolts that have a specific torque specification.

urbexHHR 03-05-2010 08:49 AM

Nope..we don't have anything like that....

I will take the socket wrench with me to Florida, so I can check it periodically...

sleeper 03-05-2010 12:25 PM

Eric- (again) 2 words: Loc-Tite

And your pic is clearer too, my pic is a little fuzzy looking to me.. :-(

TEB-HHR 03-06-2010 05:51 PM

Received my rear sway bar yesterday from TTR. Put it on today. So very cool :thumb:

sleeper 03-06-2010 11:00 PM

Tim- Cool :thumb:

After you rack a few miles testing, be great to hear your input about the difference.. If you choose to..

BlackknighT 03-07-2010 06:42 AM

CrazyCarKid-you'll only really feel the difference when the HHR needs it. 35 miles an hour being stuck behind a hay hauler will not make too much of a diff. The faster you are going and the sharper the turn makes the bar react. Go a little faster on a dry/no sand on/off ramp of a highway and you'll see the reaction of the bar. Just be safe when you do it.

It really is money well spent. Your next small tickent item should be Gorilla Plastic 8000lb Car ramps-makes life a lot easier for me. My spare tire gets in the way of crawling under the HHR if you know what I mean...

J W Davis 03-07-2010 03:00 PM

Installed mine too!

Came home from work and almost fell over the big box, wife had put it by the front door in entry. Next day I installed the bar (took 8 minutes) using tie wraps to hold it in place and used red thread lock on the bolts. Hardest part was getting under it and working with hands above my head!

Took it out to the freeway and played like Nascar, what a difference I love it!

solman98 03-08-2010 06:40 AM

My went in this past Friday. In case anyone wants to see one installed.

Looks like it time to touch the muffler up...

twistrman 03-08-2010 07:40 AM

have you painted your muffler before, and it has just worn off that much, or is it just dirty?

I haven't taken a look under mine to see how my paint has been holding up.

ugh i need some ramps...

I painted it years ago. I used hi temp paint, but apparently it has burned off some.

I think they are Rhino 5000's. I'll double check tonight. I've had them for years.

ecl 03-08-2010 12:14 PM

does the front clear your ramps? My dad has ramps and thats how I installed my bar but the the front wont clear them(front bumper hits them) and Ive been looking for some that will.

I wonder if these will fit under the SS front end though? I did see one set that was 56 inches long that I am sure will fit but were $190.00, a bit pricey:eek:.

What is the clearance from the SS chin down?

sleeper 03-08-2010 03:21 PM

Solman- TTR bar looks good...How do you like it ??

For the guys trying to get on ramps, I use 1 piece of 2X6 in front of each ramp. Gives you a bit of lift before the 'chin' reaches the ramps. Length depending on your vehicle.

Cost = $0. scrap lumber..

The front fascia is 8 inches from the ground and the black air deflector mounted underneath the fascia is 6 inches from the ground.

With the 225/45's, I'm 7.25 from the ground from the black air deflector. These tires are almost 1" taller than the 225/40's I was running. The are indeed Rhino Ramps, I think they were the 5000 lb models. But the label is no longer there. So I would think they would work with the SS front fascia. I never hit mine, even coming off them.

Hard to say at the moment. Might not have really put a test to it with the 30mph roads in and out of my neighborhood.

Thanks Solman, appreciate the info and your time! :thumb: I will check them in to see if they will work for me.

I thought you were'nt supposed to put any kind of substance on a torqued bolt.

Why not ? We put oil on head bolts to get a true torque, reduces the fricton.
& same for LocTite.

But I would not put oil on my wheel lugs tho..
