Quick Struts
well, had a chance, today, to pull one of the front wheels to COMPARE the "new" QS's that monroe sent me with the monroe QS's that i already have installed. compared number of coils....exactly the same count. compared the coil "thickness" with a pair of dial calipers...the same. so, seems to me that the ones that their tech/warrenty dept's sent me are the same as what i already have(that pose a problem). also, on the box labels, there was no indication of them being "special"(for the HHR as opposed to the cobalt, for example) so..........put the new ones back in their respective boxes and will call monroe on monday. in prior conversation that i had with their tech dept, they indicated that the coils would be "different" for the HHR QS's.....???
thanks...will be talkin to them tomorrow. wonderin if someone, in monroe, just grabbed the "wrong" ones offa the shelf........the ones that don't have the @@ symbols on them........the two symbols as michiganmarty mentioned previously...
just got off the line with monroe....they understand my plight and are shipping out another set of QS's......they said that the box should of had indications that the springs were the proper ones for the HHR.
Thanks to this tread , I went with KYB struts, Canuk Motorsports 1.5 inch lowering coils and factory top bearing plates, no noise , no bottoming out, no alignment issues, and cost $80.00 less total for the parts!! to boot, thanks for the posts to make me aware of the problems you have endured with Monroe, I hope they pony up and fix the issues for you.

I'm asking because I just installed a set of Monroe QS on my LS (I had them on order before I found this thread, I could have kicked myself...). Anyway, I was going to swap my OEM springs on the new struts, but after removing the first one and comparing side by side, the QS spring was exactly the same as the OEM, so I decided to install the QS as is. I did keep my older struts, in case I need to swap the springs in a few months.
But, so far so good, they are quiet, nothing is binding or knocking; they may have resolved the problem after all. There where no special markings or indications on the boxes.
