Angry Rear brake drum diameter

Hi Guys,

I bought couple days ago rear drums for my Chevy HHR 2.4 LT 2008 and the seller sent me probably bad type because if i´m not wrong i need drums with diameter ‪9,05" (231mm).

Problem is that he sent to me drums marked as 80121 with diameter ‪8,91" ‬( 226,3 mm) and he doesnt want change them for correct type

Do someone know please what year or modelis using this type of drums with diameter ‪8,91" ‬( 226,3 mm).

Thank you in advance and sorry for my English (I´m from Czech Republic :) )

The drum changed for 2009. I am seeing the 80121 as correct for a 2008 model.

ACDelco number is 177-0989, GM # 10388690

Pre-2009 models have a different design from later models.

That number on the drum is the MAX diameter; the throw away diameter. Your original drums should have the same max diameter printed on them.

Hi Dombrew,

thank you for your quick answer.

It is realy strange because my old drums has number of diameter 231mm (I have model of the year 2008). When my mechanic tried put the new one on there (226,3mm) drum then there was the problem , because new drum was too small.

Thank you

Do the brakes have a "universal" spring hold down or coil springs with pins?

What is the tenth digit of your VIN? I am wondering if you have a 2009 that was registered as a 2008.

This is the Universal spring type that uses the smaller drum

Thank you.

I will ask my mechanic what type of rear brakes i have but i'm almost sure that i have first one because he was saying something about springs...

Regarding vin code tenth number is 8.

So 80121 are correct for models till 2009?

That's what the parts books seem to say. Do you know the history of the car? It may have been wrecked and used parts installed or, Frankenstein-ed.

Car could not be cracked because i have certificates from "central database" of cars history.

There have to be some different problem. Do you know if there exist two types of brake shoes as well?

Do you have 17 inch wheels? That might be the difference, that would make it a 2LT not a LT. Look on the glove box door for 2LT,LT, LS.

I just looked at Autozone they say 80122 for the 2.4L. I think that is 230 mm.

Advance auto says the 230 mm fit 2006-2008 and the 228 mm fit 2009-2011. That is Carquest/Wearever brand.

Either I was wrong or the book I looked at earlier was wrong.

Advanceautoparts.com has specs listed for the CarquestWearever parts.
