Replacing sway bar

Got 2007 hhr 2LT and have a bent sway bar on the passenger side . It has been rubbing on the top of the control arm .. so I’m getting one from the boneyard and replace it so my question is I read you have to loosen the cradle bolts and support it so you can get it out .. and are the bolts accessible under the car ? are there any torque specs on tighten them up ?

How did you bend that? That bar should go from one control arm to the other.

If you remove the steering rack, it comes out the driver’s side you can remove the swaybar, it comes out the passenger side. You will have to remove the rear transmission mount.

Are you sure it’s bent? Did somebody install the end links in the wrong side?
could you post a photo?

The easiest way is to drop the rear of the cradle. Navigating the bar through the space provided could take a lot of doing.

thanks guys I checked the links and there under 10 inches so I bought new ones and thought that was the problem.. I had a mechanic take a look at it and was told it is definitely bent .. He going to do the work for me since my back is screwed up .. I did ask is there any adjustments for it and he said no .. so this is the first time dealing with this and I’m positive this car never been in a accident..

That had to be a big accident! I would get the alignment checked, might need a body pull. The only way I can think of to bend the sway bar is to really bend up the LCA an strut, the strut geometry is determined by the wheel well mounting point.
10 inch is really 9.86 inch.

It obviously has to come out anyway. Before you buy a new one, once you have it out, you could evaluate and see how hard it would be to bend it back into shape. Depending on how it’s bad it is, it might not be that difficult to correct. I guess it would still be easier to just replace it though.
